    Confirm the entity
    Compare the enterprise number, legal name, legal form and status. Distinguish the enterprise from a local establishment; the latter can have a different address without being a different contracting entity.
    When the search returns nothing
    Search by enterprise number if the trading name is ambiguous, and check former names or establishment details. A failed or unavailable search should be recorded separately from a confirmed absence.
    What the record cannot establish
    Enterprise registration and VAT validity are different checks. A Belgian enterprise-number match does not guarantee a valid intra-EU VAT response. Missing officer fields should stay missing, not be inferred from a contact name.
