Frequently asked questions
How do I do an ABN lookup?
Go to abr.business.gov.au and enter the ABN, ACN, or business name. Results are free and include current legal name, ABN status, GST registration, and the state of the main business location.
What is the difference between ABN and ACN?
The ACN (Australian Company Number, 9 digits) is issued by ASIC on incorporation. The ABN (Australian Business Number, 11 digits) is issued by the ATO for tax purposes. Every registered company has both; sole traders and trusts only have an ABN.
Is ABN lookup free?
Yes. The ABR public search is free with no rate limit for interactive queries and no account required.
