    What is INPI?

    INPI operates France's Registre national des entreprises (RNE). DATA INPI provides public company information and available filings. Beneficial-ownership access is restricted and must not be assumed to be included in public open data.

    France: choosing and checking the right record

    Choose the correct source
    Identify the legal unit with its SIREN, then distinguish it from a particular establishment identified by SIRET. Use the relevant official register or document service for the company's filings and extract.
    Confirm the entity
    A SIREN has nine digits; a SIRET has 14 and identifies an establishment. Compare legal form, registered name and headquarters before matching a branch address to an invoice.
    When the search returns nothing
    Search the exact identifier and check whether the location is an establishment rather than the headquarters. Name-only matches may include unrelated businesses with similar trading names.
    What the record cannot establish
    A directory listing, registry extract and VAT check have different evidential scope. A listed representative is not automatically a beneficial owner. Check which source supplies each field and whether a document is paid.

    Is INPI French company data free?

    Public RNE data and available filings can be consulted through DATA INPI, subject to the service's conditions. Beneficial-ownership access has been restricted since July 2024 and requires the applicable eligibility and request process. Confidential or withheld information is not a missing-owner finding.

    What is the difference between INPI and Infogreffe?

    INPI aggregates and publishes the underlying data; Infogreffe sells authenticated Kbis extracts issued by the local commercial court. For research use INPI; for official proof use Infogreffe.
