Choose the correct source

Start with the legal name, NIF and province. The Registro Mercantil Central and provincial registers have different functions; follow the official document route to the register holding the company's file rather than treating name availability as incorporation evidence.

Confirm the entity

CIF is the older name often used for a company's NIF. Compare the exact legal entity and province; an ES-prefixed VAT check answers a tax question and is not a replacement for the commercial-register entry.

When the search returns nothing

Check a former name, the legal name behind the brand and the responsible provincial register. A failed central name search is not a definitive absence finding. Ask the counterparty for the exact NIF and registration particulars.

What the record cannot establish

A nota simple and a certified document are different evidence. Read the issue date and representation provisions. Spain permits an SL with €1 capital subject to safeguards below €3,000; low registered capital alone is not proof of an invalid company.
