Chaque entreprise est identifiée par un numéro SIREN à 9 chiffres et par un SIRET à 14 chiffres pour chaque établissement. France's business registry system is managed by Infogreffe (commercial court clerks) and INSEE (the national statistics institute which assigns SIREN/SIRET numbers). France has over 4 million active businesses and is the EU's second-largest economy. The French government has made significant progress in opening company data through the API Entreprise and data.gouv.fr platforms.

Start with Infogreffe or INPI
Infogreffe is the commercial-court registry portal; INPI runs the official national company data feed. INPI provides bulk data free since 2023; Infogreffe is the place to buy authoritative excerpts.

Identify by SIREN
SIREN is a 9-digit unique identifier; SIRET adds a 5-digit establishment suffix. The SIREN is the canonical join key for French B2B data.

Pull the extrait Kbis
Kbis is France's equivalent of a Handelsregister excerpt — the canonical certificate of incorporation. Free to download via Monidenum since 2023 for the company itself; paid via Infogreffe for third parties.

Check NAF/APE code for sector
NAF (national activity nomenclature) codes classify the company's primary activity. These are auto-assigned by INSEE based on the company's declared business and are useful for sector-based ICP filters.

France is a pioneer in Open Data; while Infogreffe charges for certified K-bis certificates, almost all raw data is available for free through the INSEE SIRENE database and data.gouv.fr.

Basic company data and recent filings are free through Open Data portals; certified K-bis and some historical acts require a fee via Infogreffe.

La consultation des données de base (dénomination, SIREN, siège, dirigeants) est gratuite via data.inpi.fr et pappers.fr. L'extrait Kbis officiel est gratuit pour le dirigeant via monidenum.fr et payant sur infogreffe.fr.
Quelle est la différence entre SIREN et SIRET ?▾
Le SIREN (9 chiffres) identifie l'entreprise. Le SIRET (14 chiffres) identifie un établissement précis : SIREN + code NIC à 5 chiffres. Une entreprise a un seul SIREN mais un SIRET par établissement.
Qu'est-ce que le code APE / NAF ?▾
Le code APE (Activité Principale Exercée) — aussi appelé code NAF — est attribué par l'INSEE et décrit l'activité principale de l'entreprise. Il détermine notamment la convention collective applicable.
Kbis, RNE, RCS : quelles différences ?▾
Le RCS (Registre du Commerce et des Sociétés) est tenu par les greffes des tribunaux de commerce. Le RNE (Registre National des Entreprises) le regroupe depuis 2023 sous la responsabilité de l'INPI. Le Kbis est la carte d'identité officielle d'une société immatriculée au RCS.
Comment vérifier un numéro de TVA intracommunautaire français ?▾
Le numéro de TVA intracommunautaire français (FR + clé 2 chiffres + SIREN 9 chiffres) se vérifie via la base VIES de la Commission européenne. Le RNE affiche le SIREN, dont se déduit le format standard du numéro.
